Controversy Over Juniors Parking in the Senior Lot

By Allie Allen, Staff Writer

Over the course of the school year, many juniors have been getting their driver’s license. Getting a driver’s license is one of the most exciting things that happen over the course of high school, which means students want to drive everywhere and all the time. One of these places is school.

But there is one thing: these juniors began parking in the senior parking lot. It is well known that the juniors have a designated place to park: on Pancake Hollow Dr. So, it is not completely cruel of the administration to not let them park in the lot.

Seniors have been continuously late to class trying to find a parking spot because juniors fill up the lot quickly and early. Senior Emma Gallup says, “I have to get back from lunch ten to fifteen minutes early in order to get a spot in the lot. When I’m walking into the building I see juniors walking to and from the lot every day.”

One junior who wishes to stay anonymous says, “Some of my friends who are juniors do park in the senior lot and still haven’t been caught. They just don’t care really.”

Many seniors have been given Saturday detentions for parking in visitor or staff parking spots. However, many of them state they parked there because there were no other spots and they didn’t want to be late for class again. Seniors are also questioning why they are the ones getting in trouble instead of the juniors who are forcing them to park elsewhere.

The rules state that only seniors are allowed to park in the lot. In the beginning of senior year, students had to pay for stickers to put on their cars as a parking pass. Seniors definitely wish administration would be a bit more strict with the juniors so they can have a place to park and can discontinue the pattern of being late to class.
