Green Party Calls for Recount

With the election results in and Donald J. Trump nominated as President-Elect, many people are not happy with the results.

Jill Stein, presidential candidate for the Green Party, is just one of these angry people. Stein requested a recount in three close states, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Stein sued election officials in Pennsylvania in federal court, demanding a statewide recount. So far, she has raised $7.2 million with a goal of $9.5 million.

Stein stated that her push for a recount in these three states was not to change the outcome of the election, but to focus on the integrity of the voting system in all three states.

Trump took to Twitter and wrote, “Just a Stein scam to raise money!”

Stein has said, “We urge Donald Trump to look at the facts, not make up the facts. We are here to assure Donald Trump that there is nothing to be afraid of. If you believe in democracy, if you believe in the credibility of your victory, put down your arms, end your bureaucratic obstruction.”

Trump and his supporters are trying to fight the recounts by filing lawsuits.

“I think that Jill Stein has every right to push for a recount in those three states. It is good that she is challenging it and focusing on the voting system,” Tia Washah, a sophomore at WHHS said.

The federal law requires that states resolve their disputes over the electors appointed by December 13th, which means that Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin have about a week to wrap up the recount efforts.
