The Farewell Battle

By Dan Abate

Around the NBA, teams are cherishing every moment they have left to be around the basketball icon Kobe Bryant. Bryant is the only player in the history of basketball to play three decades with one team throughout his career. He is also a 17-time All-Star and has 11 first-team All-NBA selections (tied with Karl Malone for best ever). Bryant also won five championships, earning himself two championship MVP’s. Kobe will have worn his No. 8 and his No. 24 for a decade each following his retirement.

LeBron James, one of Kobe Bryant’s most respected teammates throughout time, have met on the court for one last time. James has cherished every moment from Kobe Bryant in the low post. Throughout his career, James has envied the majority of his game after Kobe. The two NBA  All-Star MVP’s are the league’s most dominant two players. The farewell battle between two of the greatest players in NBA history was just mesmerizing.

The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Los Angeles Lakers with a final score of 120-108 on Thursday night. James scored 24 points against his favorite opponent for the final time. “I’m a huge Kobe Bryant fan and it’s just sad that this is his last season,” mentioned senior James Rim. Bryant, who will retire after the season, had 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Bryant ignored his constantly sore right shoulder to make sure he didn’t miss his 22nd meeting with James on the court.
