US and China agree on UN North Korea solution

The United States and China have decided that they will go with the UN’s resolution to deal with North Korea’s nuclear supplying. In the past few weeks North Korea has been making suspicious actions, doing such things as launching a satellite into outer and testing new nuclear weaponry. The United States have decided that it is time to take actions against North Korea, China thought that it was time to take action as well as their representative says that North Korea is a growing danger.

The United States circulated the draft text to the other three permanent council members, Britain, France and Russia are joining in on the situation. There are going to be 15 council members total to talk about a draft resolution. Negotiations on the draft resolution began six weeks ago after North Korea carried out its fourth nuclear test on January 6, claiming they had successfully developed a thermonuclear device.

During a meeting at the White House, United States National Security Advisor Susan Rice and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi both said “The importance of a strong and united international response to North Korea’s provocations, including through a UN Security Council resolution that goes beyond previous resolutions.” they also said North Korea should not be accepted as a Nuclear weapons state. An announcement came despite the substantial and public disagreement between the United States and China on the best way to handle North Korea.

China wants its reclusive neighbor to halt its nuclear weapons program and return to six-party international talks. Multiple Diplomats talked about the tough measures of trying to handle North Korea. The council has imposed four sets of sanctions on North Korea, After North Korea carried out a rocket launch on February 6, the Security Council renewed its pledge to impose new sanctions on Pyongyang.

There are 20 North Korean entities and 12 individuals on the UN sanctions blacklist, which provides multiple assets to freeze and have a global travel ban. Making it harder for North Korea to get supplies. WHHS student Tim Tulio says “The current plans we have for North Korea are good and we need to do our best to prevent them from becoming too strong.” Both the United States and China will now take action on North Korea and make sure they will be denuclearized.
