If you’re attending this year’s Junior Formal or Prom, then you’ve probably had what you’re going to wear on your mind. There’s so many choices and so little time! This year’s formal will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at The Tides restaurant in North Haledon.

If you want a bit of sparkle in your dress, than sequins and beading are the way to go. Sequins have been in style for a few years and are still popping up on formal dresses everywhere. And why wouldn’t they? They are fun, youthful and will surely make you shine! If you want a little shine with without looking too flashy, than beads can be exactly what you’re looking for. Beading manages to catch the lights over the dance floor and give off a slight shine. Not only can beads add some sparkle to your dress, but they are also arranged in unique and beautiful patterns that make your dress feel like it was made just for you. Designers of this year seem to have been greatly inspired by tribal and geometric patterns that can a dress its own personality.

Showing a little bit of skin without getting in trouble with your school’s dress code may seem like a lost cause. But thanks to this year’s designers, there are plenty of options that you can choose from that your school will allow. Cutouts are great and unique way to show skin without being too reviling. There are a large variety of cutout dresses to choose from so that you can find one where to cutout is just how you want it. Many of these dresses have side cutouts to expose the side of your midriff and look very stylish. Crop top and two piece dresses also expose your midriff in a fun way. This trend is so different and youthful that you can’t help but see why it’s so popular this year. If you showing midriff isn’t really your style, then maybe a backless dress is for you. This trend is very flattering and only reveals your back. The rest of the dress is usually high-necked and more conservative. This is a great choice and allows you to expose a little skin while still being covered. You can also go for a dress with a sheer bottom, a high slit or a even a high-low stilted skirt if you want to show your legs. These gowns can be very comfortable and functional, while still looking very elegant fashion forward. An off-the-shoulder is a great option if you’d rather show your upper body. These are all very common, easy to find trends for proms and formals this year.

Bold prints have gotten popular this year as well. Florals are a fun, flirty way to add some excitement to your dress. The contrasting colors will make you look beautiful and dramatic. Its sure to get people’s attention. Geometrical shapes and patterns are another colorful option that is sure to capture attention. Designers use circle, stripe and zig-zagging patterns to accessorize your gown and make it one of a kind. If you’re not a pattern person but still want a lot of color, then a pastel colored gown is a perfect choice. Just about any color your heart desires is extremely trendy this year. “I think I wanna go with something red and short,” says sophomore, Clarissa Ruth who was invited to junior formal. “I’ve been told I look nice in that color!” You will definitely find something that complements your skin tone and really help you stand out from the crowd.
