Haircuts can make or break fashion in 2024. Getting a good haircut is definitely one of the best feelings of all time. But getting a bad haircut isn’t uncommon, and it can ruin your day for weeks on end as you are waiting for it to grow out. It can also be embarrassing and awkward at times. But what do you do about it? We all know that you can’t wear hats or hoods in school so trying to cover it up is seemingly impossible. We asked some students at Wayne Hills High School about their opinions on bad haircuts and if they ever had one.
Everybody knows the feeling of getting out of a barber shop or salon, and realizing that your hair got ruined. Senior Narita Bajet said “A bad haircut can definitely hurt anyone’s ego and bring down one’s confidence and emotional stability.” While seeing your hair messed up can be traumatizing, it’s comforting to know that you are not alone.
There are definite dos and don’ts when it comes to getting a good haircut. One way to ensure a good haircut is going to the right place. One shop that is notorious across the nation for giving out bad haircuts is Sport Clips. I personally have a few bad experiences with our local Sport Clips. A senior at Wayne Hills High School also isn’t a fan of the place. Emilio Roca said “I went to Sports Clips and asked not to have my sides too low, and they proceeded to ruin my life for the next couple of months. I had to cut off a lot of what I had on the top. I couldn’t do anything but wait. Don’t ever go to Sport Clips unless you want to restart.” It’s safe to say that places like Sport Clips may be safe to stay away from depending on the type of hairstyle you want.
Another way to stay safe from a bad haircut is to not try cutting your own hair. Trying to give yourself a haircut can end very badly, especially if you do not know what you’re doing. We interviewed a Junior who attempted to cut their own hair. The haircut was so bad to her she requested to be listed as anonymous. “It was really bad because everyone kept pointing at it and I was really embarrassed. I thought it was a good idea at the time but it really wasn’t,” says the anonymous Junior.
All in all getting a bad haircut is traumatizing and causes you to feel embarrassed. The next time when you get a bad haircut, we want you to know that you are not alone. Take comfort in the fact that it is not the end of the world, your hair will grow back. What’s the scariest haircut you’ve ever had?
