Winter track has started up at WHHS. The team is excited for this season to enhance last year’s scores and prepare for spring track.

“We are looking to improve on last year’s season, even with losing Brendan [Ungemach]; we still have the talent and motivation to be a team that other schools are scared to run against,” said junior Noah Choe.

The athletes have been busy improving their skills through daily practices and vigorous workouts in the at times below-freezing weather. So far, the team has had only one meet. The freshmen girls came home with a bronze medal for the 800-meter relay. The freshmen were skeptical about joining the winter track team after hearing about the practices. However, some are now realizing they have a passion for the sport.

“I really doubted joining track but now that I’ve started it I really love it. It’s such a great sport to get into and I’m really glad I joined, and I look forward to more meets!” said freshman Faith Lee.
