The Wayne Hills Girls Basketball team definitely showed their incredible talent the first few weeks of their season!

Over the Winter break, after playing two regular-season games, the Varsity girls participated in a Holiday tournament at Bergenfield High School. Games took place on December 27th, 28th, and 30th. The girls took wins over Dwight-Morrow, Cliffside Park, and Bergenfield. Each game ending with a score of 50+ points for the Hills team.

Although these stats sound positive, the girls did not have an easy time getting there. Before the first day of the break, the Varsity girls lost five players, three of which were due to COVID-19 protocols. But obviously, this did not stop the rest of the girls from working hard and making a spectacular performance.

Senior Sydney Licerio says she feels “intense excitement for the rest of the season.” She also says the team has been “working hard during practices, which has clearly paid off in the outcome of the games so far.”

Junior Shannon Tighe definitely stepped up to these games with outstanding stats. She reached 17+ points each game. But Tighe says she couldn’t have done it without the rest of the team. “We all work really well together,” she says “the whole team passes the ball really well and works extremely hard on defense to get the ball going back our way.”

The girls are excited to keep playing and hopefully stay on their winning streak. Make sure to check out one of their upcoming games to see the hype around this awesome team.
