Fashion Worthy Met Gala Masks of 2021

Last weekend, The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted the 2021 Met Gala. This year’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”. As expected, vaccines and masks were mandated for the participants of the event. The celebrities wore either extraordinary or bizarre outfits, as well as masks! Not only were the outfits extraordinary, but the masks were too!

Irina Shayk made a beautiful entrance with her spring-like flower dress. Shayk wore a light brown mask with a couple of flower decorations along with her sheer dress which was also adorned with flowers. This flowery dress was also paired with a tan custom-made mask which was also decorated with flower accessories. Overall, the mask was runway approved and definitely protected her from Covid-19.

This however was a very safe choice compared to Canadian musician, Claire Boucher, who also goes by the name Grimes. Not only did her outfit turn heads, but her unique mask also captured the attention of the audience. She wore a silver metallic utopian-looking mask that wrapped around the back of her head. Claire’s extraterrestrial mask was inspired by the science-fiction blockbuster, ‘Dune’. When questioned about her interesting choice Grimes responded, “It’s kind of inspired by the movie Dune, which is an American film.”

Janae Murray, a sophomore student from Wayne Hills High School, was also amazed as most people watching at home. “One thing they all have in common, style. Grimes is always seen wearing head-turning outfits but this mask just adds to her look,” Murray said.

Last but certainly not least, there was Kim Kardashian West! Kim wore a head-to-toe matte black Balenciaga outfit. Her outfit was definitely unusual but she still had her mask.

Janae Murray was also confused by the abnormal ‘mask’. “At Least she’s COVID safe but it’s not a good look.”
