Boys Bowling Looks to Repeat as State Sectional Champions

The team is coming off an impressive season last year where they took home a State Sectional Title, one of many for Coach Basilicato.

After winning the State Sectional Championship last year, the Boys Bowling team looks to repeat as champions led by Head Coach Richard Basilicato and Captains Matthew Klarberg and Steven Neri. The Patriots only lost one player coming into the season, Patrick Meyer, who graduated. Senior Mason Smith said, “We are very optimistic about our team this year because we have a lot of returning players.” Going into this season the Patriots are ranked second among teams in North Jersey. The team has four returning seniors in Klarberg, Neri, Smith, and Nick Kent.

On Friday the 8th, the team had a preseason tournament at Holiday Bowl in Oakland. The team took home second place to Fair Lawn. The Patriots highest score was the second game, with 1027.

Senior Matt Klarberg was on a roll (no pun intended), bowling four strikes in a row, a Four-Bagger, in the first game of the tournament.

The team had a record setting number of 11th Pin members on Friday with 5 fans who were all seniors. Ben Cooperman, Sam Reyzelman, Nick Palumbo, and yours truly were all in attendance in addition to the student-athletes’ parents.

Unfortunately the team did not bowl all too well when the 11th Pin was there, bowling 856. Coach Basilicato later told members of the 11th Pin to never show up again due to the team’s performance, blaming the 11th Pin as a distraction.
