Sophomore Riya Patel received a letter from first lady Michelle Obama recently regarding the Wayne Hills Robotics club.

Patel says she sent Mrs. Obama a letter around last year informing her on what the robotics team here at Hills does. About a month or two after sending the letter, Riya received one in response.

“It’s pretty cool, I mean I didn’t expect her to see it, says Sophomore Riya Patel.

In her email, Riya explained to Mrs. Obama what the robotics club did, and the students involved from Anthony Wayne Middle School, Wayne Valley High School, and Wayne Hills High School. The robotics club participated in the first Tech Challenge, also knows at FTC, and this is what Patel was informing Mrs. Obama about.

FTC is a worldwide program where students ranging from grades 7 -12 learn about the fields of Science, Technology,Engineering and Math (STEM) through a hands-on learning process in the field of robotics,” Said Patel in her letter to Mrs. Obama.

Not only is it amazing that Patel was able to accomplish something that got the attention of first lady Michelle Obama, but her response to Patel was one that anyone would be proud to receive.

“Active and strong organizations are the cornerstone of our democracy, and so I thank you and all those you work with for engaging in the important work of true citizenship,” Mrs. Obama says in her letter responding to Patel.

Patel has achieved a great accomplishment, and a letter from Mrs. Obama just makes it that much better.
