Wayne’s Relay For Life Ranks Top 10 in the Country

Relay For Life is an annual event that changes lives by allowing communities across the world the opportunity to make a difference, Wayne’s 2015 Relay For Life even ranked in the top ten of the country.  Every year upwards of four million people throughout over 20 countries hold Relay For Life events. There are over 5,200 events held each year, and for Wayne to place in the top ten, is incredible. Event leader, Katie Casamassina, explains how incredible this news was.  “When I found out that Wayne’s Relay was top 10 I could not hold back tears.  So many hours of planning and hard work go into the event and to have all that recognized was amazing.”

The Wayne Relay’s 42-person committee worked hard to ensure the event went smoothly. All of the people who attended relay raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is handled by leaders Casamassina and Mallika VEnkatachalam, goes to the American Cancer Society.  The full total of money raised goes to researching different types of cancer and providing service and information to cancer patients, families of those fighting the deadly disease, and caregivers. Casamassina also attended a Relay For Life convention in dallas this past summer where she met up with people from across the globe who have inspired her to continue to improve an already successful event that has done remarkable things over the past ten years. There are new and exciting things in the works for the 2016 Wayne Relay, which will be held on June 4th. Relay events are truly an incredible experience.  Each event has different laps walked, the touching luminaria ceremony honoring loved ones who have passed or continue to fight, and the overall entertainment and fun of the event.  The Wayne Relay For Life committee and the American Cancer Society hopes to see everyone ready to celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer.
