As Thanksgiving approaches, Wayne Hills students and staff anticipate their short break. Of course, most people are looking forward to their feasts on Thanksgiving day. Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same without the turkey. Even though it is the most popular Thanksgiving dish, it is definitely not everyone’s favorite.
Sophia Flower, a senior at Wayne Hills, says, “I think the turkey at Thanksgiving is okay, but I would much rather prefer one of the side dishes such as potatoes.” Not only are potatoes a classic favorite, they can be made in so many different ways.
Mr.Scott, a Wayne Hills gym teacher, says, “My favorite Thanksgiving food by far is sweet potato casserole; it is more like a dessert than an actual food.” Sweet potato casserole is typically a dish made with ingredients including sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, and marshmallows. Some may argue that this should be a dessert, but Mr. Scott likes to enjoy it with his dinner on Thanksgiving.
Another senior at Wayne Hills, Lela Ramadani, strays from both turkey and potatoes saying, “My favorite Thanksgiving food is the stuffing, my mom makes it homemade and it is always the best dish.”
A Junior at Wayne Hills, Lexi Catania says, “I love helping my mom make the feast. We always make most of the food and then take it to my uncle’s house for my whole family.” Although people’s favorite Thanksgiving foods may be different, everyone can agree that food on Thanksgiving is the best food we’ll eat during the year.
While traditions may vary for people on Thanksgiving. Many people watch similar iconic traditional events. Another Wayne Hills gym teacher, Ms. Tobinas says, “I watch the parade in the morning and then enjoy the football game in the afternoon.” Many people tend to cook the food and set up for the holiday in the morning while watching the parade to prepare for an early dinner. Then, they have an early dinner and watch the football game just like Ms.Tobinas.
Everyone has their traditions on Thanksgiving, making it a special holiday that many people look forward to. Thanksgiving is a remarkable day that focuses on spending time with family and friends and being thankful. This celebration is one of the biggest holidays in the United States because people all around get together for a meal and reflect on why and what they are grateful for.
