Thomas Kean is a 56-year-old Republican from Livingston, New Jersey who will be the next congressman of the House of Representatives in the 7th District of New Jersey after beating his opponent Sue Altman on Tuesday, November 5.
Kean received 215,938 votes, 27,677 more than Altman.
His father served as governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990, and his grandfather was a former congressman. He grew up knowing all about politics, and it shaped his views and opinions today.
He supports the Parents Bill of Rights Act of 2020, allowing parents to be more involved in their children’s education. They have the right to be heard and informed about the school budget and the information their children are being taught. He believes that parents should understand what their children are being taught. Their school lives will thoroughly impact their futures so it is important that their parents can monitor the knowledge of their students.
Junior Emily Caslander stated “I think it is important for parents to know what their children are being taught at school. They shouldn’t be completely blindsided about the education system but also, it isn’t good for parents to get overly involved.”
Although some parents may seem too involved, Kean believes it’s more important for parents to know about their children’s lives and what they are learning every day than to allow a few people to ruin that.
He also supports the passage of the Secure the Border Act of 2023. Now that he has won the election, he will continue to support these causes.
