Located in the North Wing of Wayne Hills High School is the Freshman Cafeteria, specifically reserved for the Freshmen students only. As Freshmen are the “new kids” of the school, it’s understandable as to why the Staff would want them to get to know each other. But being able to communicate with upperclassmen would be nice as well.
Freshman Katheryn Paul explained her take. “It’s fine, but my friends and I moved to the North Gym to eat and I like it better there. I can see why some people might not like it though. I know a few of my friends do have some upperclassmen friends.”
Although Freshmen do have the North Gym to go to, both rooms consist of only Freshmen and a few teachers. Perhaps for students who are new at Wayne Hills and met many of their friends (who are one-to-three years older) through sports, their experience during lunch might be a bit lonely. Especially when they have trouble making new friends.
On the other hand, Anjuli Mahajan has mixed feelings about it. She said, “I don’t like it very much. But I can’t say that I hate it.”
The Freshmen Counselor, Mr. Glaz, answered this question in an email. He claimed, “We don’t have space in the Commons for three grades so eating there is a privilege for Sophomores and Juniors…We have traditionally separated Freshmen so that they could stay with their peers.”
Since Paul and Mahajan are only a tiny fraction of the Freshmen students of Wayne Hills High School, it can be safely assumed that not everyone shares the same opinions as them. Many students who are new to Wayne Hills have a good chance of making new friends through sports. Though many of them might be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors. Though, other Freshmen students may think the Freshmen Cafeteria is quite roomy and nice.
