Wilson Alequin, is 41 years old with excellent experience as a leader. Alequin has earned 11,085 votes and has secured a seat on the Wayne Board of Education. He was previously a public servant for seventeen-plus years working in law enforcement, and is now a detective lieutenant. Through his job, he helps with the Active Shooter / Scenario-based-de-escalation team, as well as being a part of the county swat team. Wilson says having this experience has helped him to understand how to have “highest integrity, morals, and honesty” as a figurehead. In his previous professions, Wilson shares he has ensured that people from all different backgrounds, race, and ethnicity, are “treated fairly and with upmost respect”.
His involvement in this line of work, has given him an appreciable understanding of how to represent multiple different groups of people. He wants to ensure “everyone has a voice”, especially in “educational” and “administrative” decisions. Wilson has discussed some current issues in Wayne, involving his effort to raise funds for the new apartment buildings being built in Wayne, that will without a doubt increase class sizes, and community numbers. Wilson says in the meantime we should look into some portable classrooms to help relieve some of the crowded classrooms. His efforts to solve problems show that Wilson will be a helpful seat on the Board of Education.
Even students from Wayne Hills High School agree, Julia Sandler a senior says, “My family and I like his morals and what he believes in. I think he’ll be a great asset to the Wayne Board of Education.”
Overall, the campaign was a successful and respectful election. The town is looking forward to seeing the work that is to be done, and seeing the victors work together to make Wayne a stronger and better place, supporting all people.
