The companies, Microsoft and Oracle have until January 2025 to buy TikTok until it’s banned. The Chinese company that owns it is called ByteDance. The U.S. is making ByteDance sell it because the Chinese can steal data and find private information.
TikTok is an app used by millions of people worldwide daily. It is also used by many Wayne Hills High School students. With it, you can create and discover videos that you can share with family and friends. Some use it for hours a day, but that could change by the end of this year. The students at Hills have a lot to say about it.
Junior Penelope Gutierrez-Campodonico said, “I don’t think that TikTok should be banned because it’s a great way for people to make new friends and it also helps people find others that share common interests with them.” Some people find it difficult to make new friends and being able to communicate through social media such as TikTok makes it easier for them.
Freshman Kyleigh Figueroa stated, “I’ve never felt more depressed in my life. Just the thought of TikTok getting banned pains my soul.” Some students rely on TikTok too much. TikTok has also destroyed people’s attention spans
Most people believe that TikTok shouldn’t be banned because it is a great source of entertainment and an escape from the harsh world. However, some people think it is for the best such as Junior Clara Kim. She said, “My crippling addiction will go away if it’s banned and I could get a lot more homework done.”
TikTok is known to be addictive and especially for students, that’s not a good thing. Students could achieve so much more without the constant distraction of scrolling. It’s still not decided whether Tiktok will be banned. What changes will occur if it does happen?

TikTok is one of my absolute favorite apps. If they banned TikTok, I predict that many people will reach towards Instagram because of their trending feature “Insta Reels”.

TikTok has become a huge part of our social culture, offering a space for creativity and connection. However, I do worry about the negative impacts on mental health, like low self-esteem and constant comparison, along with privacy concerns. The spread of harmful or misleading content also can’t be ignored. Instead of removing TikTok completely, I think it would be best to responsibly limit its usage to address these issues while still preserving its benefits.

I don’t think it should be banned since it’s a good form of entertainment and a good way to communicate with other people.
