Willowbrook Mall is poised to become the hotspot of Wayne once again, as a new 12 screen luxury theater will open there in 2019.

A brand new multiplex cinema has been planned and approved to open at Willowbrook Mall. Cinemark, the third largest movie theater chain in the United States, will operate the theater. The Cinemark theater is planned to be built by the lower end of Sears to the Sears Auto Center. The 44,000-square foot theater will have 12 viewing auditoriums, each with an ample amount of luxurious features to make the movie viewing experience more enjoyable.

Such features include floor to ceiling screens; the Cinemark “Luxury Lounger”, an oversized plush electric reclining seat with footrest and cup holder; state of the art surround-sound system; large concessions and arcade area; and more. The theater is one of the new establishments set to come to the mall now that it has completed its interior remodel.

We talked to some of our peers about their thoughts on the new theater opening. “I’m excited that the theater will have the big reclining chairs,” Kayla Whitney, a Senior, stated. Jackie Gazzano, Grade 12, was less excited, saying, “I don’t think it will work because of the AMC Theater across the street. In the end, one of them will end up closing.”

With the new Dave & Busters and Cinemark theater set to open, the mall is trying to appeal more to families and young adults. Many Wayne residents can’t wait to see what the new and improved Willowbrook Mall will be bringing to our town in the upcoming years.
