Field Hockey Itches for a Comeback

After a county loss to Lakeland, captains of the field hockey team are demanding teamwork and dedication in order to win states.

Captain Amanda Fortemps says, “Considering we lost counties, I think the captains are trying our best to stress less individual play and more teamwork. We don’t need stars on this team, we all need to work together; that’s honestly the only way we are ever going to succeed. Coach [Jacquelynn Giammetta] has stepped down and let us figure out the problems within the team which I believe has lead us to success. Giammetta has made us better players and better runners so when the team is struggling, it’s mostly difficulties from the inside, the chemistry in between players”.

Recently winning 3-2 against River Dell on October 12th, the Hills field hockey team is in high spirits for their game on the 18th versus Demarest. This being their second time playing Demarest, Hills is working hard in practice and out to come back from the 2-0 loss. The varsity field hockey team holds 12 seniors, each to be recognized at the Demarest game for senior night.

“Last practice Coach let us run the whole thing. She wanted to see how we would work together and who the true leaders are. We even came up with a run to do at the end of practice that required the team work together in order to complete it. I think that practice really benefited us in our win against River Dell” says junior Erica Radler.

With a current record of 9-7, the field hockey team is making a comeback from the losses in the beginning of the season. Most recently winning 6-0 (varsity) and 5-0 (junior varsity) against Old Tappan on October 16th, the girls are “[…] all about good vibes for the rest of the season. We need to come out to every game positively, work as hard as we can, and leave the game feeling proud of everything that was accomplished,” comments senior Gwen Sanagustin.
