Preview of Wayne Hills Varsity Football vs. Pascack Valley
October 9, 2017
The Wayne Hills Varsity Football team will be taking on the 1-3 Pascack Valley Indians this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Hills is coming off a bye week, which was much needed after a blowout loss to Old Tappan. With a young team, it is sometimes easy to lose to a senior stacked team of Old Tappan.
Jaaron Hayek will be leading Hills in this matchup, as it is his first year as the starting QB. The Junior QB definitely has a huge impact on and off the field. With his first year as the Varsity QB, Hayek already has 349 yards with a .510 completion rating as of October 5th, 2017.
Michael Joyce, coming off a hand injury, returned to practice on October 2nd. Joyce hurt his foot in the Old Tappan game and Junior tailback Adam Abida got a shoulder injury in the first game against Canton, Ohio. He has four touchdowns this season, including three touchdowns against Ramapo three weeks ago.
Coach Demikoff led his team through a good week of practice, hoping it all pays off this Friday night game. It´s especially hard to practice when you have key players such as Joyce missing time on the field, as it can affect their next games and the game plan.
His team is a lot younger this year than it was last year, which is good because it gives the guys great experience, but is also very hard because sometimes they collapse all at once and find themselves in situations that they aren’t accustomed to.
Sophomore lineman Mike Lehmans gave us some insight on what he feels about the upcoming game, saying, ¨As far as I can tell, I think we have been training very hard over the last two weeks, and I think we have this one in the bag ¨.
This Friday night is probably the best night of the season, Senior Night. All of the seniors are brought onto the field by their families, and it´s really something to cherish for these players.
