Career Fair Comes to Hills

The WHHS Career Fair took place in the schools Gifford Gym on May 23. This event included 32 booths , ranging from colleges, universities, military and beauty schools.

This event was organized to help high school kids who are not sure what they want to do after they graduate and will hopefully put them on a good path to a successful future in whatever they choose to do.

Even if furthering their education is not for them, but they still want a degree of some sort,  the cosmetology representatives made it clear they offer multiple programs ranging anywhere from 10 months to two years.

“Not only will the students be able to choose from six courses, including things like skin care, bridal and special effects, they will also develop people and management skills,” said a representative from Cutting Edge Academy.

Each stand had its own unique display along with a representative who sat by their designated table for students who may be interested in furthering their education at that school. The representatives were very informative and clear about the information they were presenting.

Students rotated around the gym and stopped at stands that stood out to them.  The representatives answered the questions the students were asking to their full capabilities.

“I got a lot from talking to the Rutgers New Brunswick rep.   That’s definitely one of my top schools so it was nice to talk to someone who had a lot of association in the school,” says junior Monica Borsella.

The booths were diverse offering students a multitude of opportunities including film studies as well as schools emanating from Italiy and even one from Australia.

If the college environment isn’t for you,  then there are many more options. There were many booths which presented a future after high school that didn’t necessarily lead to college. For example, you could join any one of the five branches in the military.

The U.S. Marines, U.S. Army, and U.S. Coast Guards were represented.  U.S Marines booth representative Sgt. Gagliardi , said. “ When it comes to the Marines it’s all about YOU, we get personal and find out what kind of person you are and from there you build on yourself and end up with a better version of yourself. “

Next up, where the U.S. Coast Guards. “If you’re looking for humanitarian and being around the world; from major rivers to U.S open waters, the Coast Guards is your place to be,” said the booth’s representative.

And last but not least is the U.S. Military. The Army definitely has a lot of options for those who want to pursue an education.  In the Army you can join many jobs on the field and get a 100 percent free education as long as you maintain a “C” average. The great thing about the Army is that you learn multiple skills as well as get said education. Once you join the army, any classes you may have failed or maybe have not gotten a good grade in don’t matter. Everyone starts fresh and moves from the ground up.

At the end of the day, the college fair had a clear message, it’s still not too late to do something after high school and there are still many options. Whether your option is to go to a university or college or you are a more hands-on filmmaker or beauty worker. Even if college isn’t for you at al,l you can join one of the five branches of the army and serve your country.
