Drug Bust in Wayne Home

By Sam Vaught, Staff Writer

Wayne has had a track record for crimes involving drugs in the past, but recently on May 29 a drug bust was made in a home leading to the charge of host drug and weapon charges to two men.

Three-fourths of a pound of marijuana and hash along with eighty three prescription pills and four ounces of mushrooms were found in the home of brothers Nelphy and Jewry Peralta, who are currently being held at Passaic County Jail.

The pills were packaged individually ready for distribution and they also had possession of two bottles of Promethazine cough syrup with the prescription labels removed. Along with the drugs, weapons were also found in their home during the search. The Wayne Police Department found two pellet-style rifles (one with the orange tip removed), an air soft handgun (with the orange tip removed), a metal law enforcement baton, and a machete. Along with this was also two sets of handcuffs, a “Special Police” badge, and packaging for more distribution of drugs.

A search warrant was issued after complaints from the neighborhood of high traffic and open-air drug deals.

The two brothers will not only face charges against hosting drugs and weapons, but also an charge for distribution within 500 feet of a public park.

Wayne resident and sophomore Olivia Minervini said, “It’s so surprising how this happens in Wayne. It’s weird because most people assume that it would never happen in this town.'”
