Quiz Bowl Triumphs
April 13, 2017
Attention all Quiz Bowl fans! Quiz Bowl emerged victorious in the BRITE Academic Tournament.
The Wayne Hills Quiz Bowl Team 1 faced Wayne Valley Team 1 on March 28. It was a tight Final Four game throughout but ultimately Wayne Hills managed to narrowly defeat Wayne Valley by a difference of only 50 points, 850 to 800. Team members Daniel Kang, Jacob Rantas, Sudharshan Venkatesh, Maros Adamec, Robert Salita, and Justin Cohen now advance to play Bridgewater-Raritan Team 1 in a twist for the Finals next Tuesday on April 4.
It is a twist because Biotech Team 1 was heavily favored to defeat Bridgewater-Raritan in the Final Four but somehow the top-seeded team ended up losing to the fourth-seeded team. Some people think that it is not a coincidence that Bridgewater-Raritan is able to reach the Finals in their own academic tournament. That suspicion was laid to rest on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 when Wayne Hills Team 1 faced off against Bridgewater-Raritan.
On April 4, team members Daniel Kang, Jacob Rantas, Sudharshan Venkatesh, Maros Adamec, Robert Salita, and Justin Cohen defeated Bridgewater-Raritan Team 1 in the showdown of the tournament. It was a fairly close game with Hills beating Bridgewater with a score of 970 to 830. The game was not held at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School and was instead held at a private banquet, Madeline’s On Vosseller in Bound Brook, New Jersey. Both teams were treated to a sumptuous dinner after the competitive rounds of answering trivia. Wayne Hills was declared BRITE Champions and received a check for $2000 while Bridgewater-Raritan ended up being BRITE Finalists and receiving a check for $1000. The team members all agreed that it was a great game and a rewarding experience.
Senior Maros Adamec said of his experience, “It was a really fun time and I wish I had joined earlier. There was nothing more satisfying than winning the whole tournament.” Adviser Ms. Susan Price had a few choice comments about the team as well. Congratulations to the Quiz Bowl team and good luck at the National Academic Tournament in June! It is still a few months away but time passes by quickly. The team will be preparing for the tournament in the coming weeks for sure.
