Apple’s new red iPhone is receiving positive feedback after the company revealed its contribution to AIDS and HIV awareness.

Apple has officially released a red version of the new iPhone 7 and 7 plus. This product was made to commemorate the 10-year partnership between Apple and the company RED. RED is designed to raise awareness and conduct research against AIDS and HIV. All of the money raised through the introduction of the red iPhone goes directly to the Global Fund which sponsors any counseling or treatment programs for these diseases.

Since the production in 2006, RED has raised more than $456 million dollars for the Global fund. Apple has contributed $130 million making them the biggest contributor to the company.

“I’ve only used black iPhones ever since I was young because of the sleek finish but after hearing about where the profits are going I would definitely considering buying a red iPhone,” says Danielle Black, a senior at WHHS and a loyal apple customer.

The iPhone, released on March 21st, is available in a red aluminum edition and is only sold in 128GB and 256GB. It has the same functions of the regular iPhones and the prices start at $749 for a 128GB model.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO has stated on the Apple website,“Since we began working with RED 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.”

Cook hopes that the introduction of the red iPhone will bring us one step closer to an AIDS/HIV free generation.
