Super XLI Predictions
February 2, 2017
Finally, the big game is here. No more waiting and guessing who’s going to be in the Super Bowl. The two matchups are locked in. It will be the New England Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons. This should be a great matchup as both teams have earned their right to be in the Super Bowl.
The New England Patriots have had a fantastic season. They come into the big game with a record of 14-2. They have had some controversy in the beginning of the season with “Deflategate.” Tom Brady was suspended for the first four games of the season. Him being suspended had no effect on the Patriots what so ever, as they went 3-1 in his absence. Tom Brady then came back to have an M.V.P. caliber season. He threw for over 3,000 yards and had an unbelievable 14:1 touchdown to interception ratio. He threw 28 touchdowns and only had two picks. LaGarrette Blount had a fantastic season too, as he had 1,161 yards rushing and an unbelievable 18 rushing touchdowns. The Patriots will be without their leading receiver, Rob Gronkowski, as he was injured and is now out for the season. The Patriots have a lockdown defense as they were once again one of the top defenses in the NFL. They were fourth in total defense this season. The defense is lead by Malcolm Butler, who had the clutch interception on the goal line in Super Bowl XLIX. They also have veterans in Devin McCourty and Rob Ninkovich who are great players. The Patriots also open up as a 3.5 point favorite to win.
The Atlanta Falcons have finally reached a Super Bowl. Falcons fans must be excited about this one, as one school in Atlanta has already closed for the Monday after the Super Bowl. The Falcons are lead by Dan Quinn, who took this team from an average 8-8 team to a potential Super Bowl winner. They have Matt Ryan, nicknamed“Matty Ice” because of how clutch he is. He has had an M.V.P. caliber season and has helped lead this Falcons team to the promised land. They also have one of the best backfields in all of football that is lead by Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. Devonta Freeman is one of the most elusive backs in the league as he can run, receive, and block, which a combination of all three are rare in the NFL. Tevin Coleman is more of a power back, as he will truck defenders left and right. They will look to take advantage of this game. Then there is Julio Jones, who is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He had a 300 yard receiving game this year against the Carolina Panthers and never looked back from there. He had 1,409 receiving yards this season and six receiving touchdowns. Atlanta also had the number one offense in the NFL this year. They also have some studs on defense, so don’t count them out. They have Vic Beasley Jr., who looks like a player in his prime rather than a second year player. He lead the league in sacks this year with 15.5. The Falcons will be without star cornerback Desmond Trufant as he is out for the season. The Falcons coming into this game are the underdogs.
Santiago Gonzalez, a freshman, had plenty to say about that. “Even though the Falcons are underdogs, I still believe they will pull off the upset against the Patriots.”
This game should be a great game as a top defense will go up against a top offense. This is the clash of legacies between Tom Brady and Matt Ryan. One team will come out on top, while the other team will go back to the drawing board for next season. Some people are even saying this could be one of the best Super Bowl games ever. The Super Bowl will be held on February 6, 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
