Relay for Life Season Approaches
February 6, 2017
The Relay for Life committee is getting ready for the big event starting with the recent kickoff festivities.
The night took on a whimsical feel to accommodate the theme of the event, which is Dr. Seuss. The committee for the event chipped in on creating tricky tray baskets and providing playful food and drinks. Many other students worked on posters and provided a photo booth to capture the night. People heard from Mayor Christopher Vergano, cancer survivors, and caregivers. The event closed with a sneak-peek Luminaria ceremony.
“The night was a huge success,” says Co-Chair of the event, Sam Marron, “ The Kickoff sets the scene for the actual event in May. Everyone is so excited.”
Relay for Life is scheduled for May 20-21st at Wayne Valley High School, and there are more than 30 teams contributing this year. The event goal for 2017 is $150,000; the committee is coming up with ways to raise money such as bagging groceries and volunteering at Lord and Taylor. Captains of participating teams have also come up with innovative ways to raise money including making laptop stickers and necklaces. Every penny counts towards a cure: A hope is a hope no matter how small!
