North Korea Threatens to Launch Missile
January 16, 2017
After a series of tests the past few weeks, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un stated that North Korea has the capability to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile at the United States, who he has blamed for increasingly sour relations between the two nations.
An anonymous North Korean foreign ministry spokesperson bragged that “The ICBM will be launched any time and anywhere determined by the supreme headquarters of the DPRK.”
On January 1st, Kim said his nuclear-capable country would soon be again test launching an ICBM, which analysts claim is not a bluff. Based on the evidence that US intelligence has gathered, it does appear that North Korea may finally have the potential to reach the US mainland with their nuclear missiles. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter added that North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs are considered a real threat to the US.
Despite these advances, it may take North Korea years to perfect their weapon. However, the North Koreans show no signs of slowing down, which may soon require US retaliation. In preparation, Washington is ready to shoot down North Korea’s missile launch or test if it enters or comes near US territory or allied territory.
US president-elect, Donald Trump tweets, “it won’t happen!” in response to Kim’s comments on an ICBM test, concerning many US citizens.
