If you are walking through the school after classes are over and pay extra close attention, you could hear many things. You can hear the squeaking of shoes against the hardwood floor, the bouncing of balls, and occasionally the sound of “nothing but net.” These sounds that can be heard mean that the girls basketball season is starting yet again.

Last year, the girls had a great season, with a record of 9-1 in their division, 15-10 overall. Many of the standouts on the team last year are returning, as they are seniors now. The returning players from last year would like to have an even better season this year. After getting knocked out of the North Jersey Section 1 Group 3 in the first round by West Milford in a 40-21 blowout, the team has a chip on their shoulders. Led by Coach Porta, the girls are training as hard as ever in order to be on top of their game once the season starts. Practices involve many drills and conditioning to have the girls ready for game day.

Lindsey Mahler, a junior, commented, “I expect us to have a better record than last year’s team. As a team, we want to accomplish great things such as winning counties and states. We also want to have an overall great season for our seniors that will be leaving after this season.”

As the girls anticipate the beginning of the season, they have one goal in mind, and that is to outperform, out hustle, and flat out destroy the competition.
