Last year in the National League playoffs, a powerful, young hitter lead his up-and-coming team to a spot in the NLDS against the New York Mets. This player was Kyle Schwarber of the Chicago Cubs. He was ranked number four in the Cubs farm system in 2014, but nobody expected him to hit 5 home runs in the playoffs, racking up 8 RBIs. Although they lost to the Mets, there were high expectations for Schwarber and the Cubs this season.

Schwarber was chasing a fly ball in the outfield and collided with teammate Dexter Fowler. Schwarber was slow to get up, and was diagnosed with a torn ACL. This was the worst news the Cubs could hear, as one of their best players, heavy contributors, was going to be out for the year. After rehabbing hard and watching his team grow for many months, he finds himself back on the field in the World Series against the Cleveland Indians, batting fifth in the lineup as if he never missed a beat. In his first two games back, Schwarber is off to a hot start, as he has three hits, two RBIs, and a hefty .429 batting average.

Frankie Terranova, an avid baseball fan and a junior, commented, “Kyle Schwarber is doing something extraordinary, having only played in a couple games prior to a major injury and now coming back and playing the way he is on the world’s biggest stage is nothing short of extraordinary.”

Schwarber’s return is nothing short of remarkable. His desire to be out on the field playing with his teammates and contributing as he is could help guide the Cubs to their first World Series victory since 1908, As the heart and soul of this young Cubs team, everyone in that locker room is glad to see Kyle Schwarber back to doing what he does best, hit the baseball.
