New York Giants Update
October 30, 2016
The New York Giants have a record of 4-3, heading into their bye week, after a very positive start to the season.
The Giants, under new head coach Ben McAdoo, are a much improved team from last year. Although the Giants had an above average offense last year, their season was a failure because of a pitiful defense. Looking to have a bounce back year, the Giants needed strong performances from Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and most importantly, their defense.
The Giants won their first two games of the season, defeating the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints. Although they were winning games, their offense was not performing as well as expected. However, their defense stayed strong, leading the Giants to a 2-0 start.
They then proceeded to lose their next three games to the Redskins, Vikings, and Packers. This was due in part to their continuing offensive struggles and the controversy surrounding Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham was having trouble controlling his emotions, taking unnecessary penalties that were hurting the team.
“Odell needs to have a better attitude,” said sophomore Jacob Park, who shares the opinion of many other Giants fans.
In their last two games, the Giants defeated the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams. After falling behind 10-0 in both games, the Giants offense was able to pick up their game and comeback to win the game.
Coming into the season, the Giants division, the NFC East, was expected to be one of the weaker divisions in the league. However, with a good record of 4-3, the Giants are still in last place in their division. Although they are in last place, they have momentum from these last two wins and as Park said, “they have the potential to be a playoff team.”
The Giants are preparing to face their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, at Metlife Stadium on November 6, after their bye week.
