New Teachers Better Than Ever
October 26, 2016
As Wayne Hills High School settles into the fourth week of school, the Patriot Press has been getting to know the new teachers even better through a quick survey. We got to know what college they graduated from, what they like to do on their spare time, even why they wanted to become a teacher and more.
David Driscoll is one of the newest teachers here in Wayne Hills High School. Born in Smithtown NY, with over twenty plus years of teaching Latin and different languages, he has developed a love for setting an example to set in motion a learning basis for his students. “I love teaching because it sets in motion all kinds of progress in students. Insight into reality. Teaching Latin can get students to see the world in a totally new way. Making people aware of history reminds us that “progress” isn’t always just about the latest technological improvement on our cell-phones. Teaching Latin intersects with so many different fields– literature, art, history, politics, English, other languages, religion– it’s the ultimate interdisciplinary study!” David states. Even though he is driven and passionate about his career now, he wasn’t always this savvy. As a student, he was filled with curiosity, lacking self discipline to continue along with long hours of work. While this could be seen as negative by some, David used this to upstart his career in something he loved, teaching. David states “I’ve always been interested in human psychology and the development of the intellect. It was natural to want to express my love of language to others.” With his different dynamics of teaching, David finds little to no time to do anything other than learn. Even in his free time, he learns and researches the history of ice men 10,000 years ago while also finding time to travel to exotic countries like Spain and some historical Greek islands. David is one of the most passionate inspiring examples for students and even staff to want to follow after. Putting in long hours of self learning just for fun and wanting to teach to students that just aren’t there for a grade but because they want to learn .
