WHHS Girls Tennis Win Counties

By John Conturso and Jack Woodard

The WHHS Girls Tennis team is keeping their successful season rolling with another county championship.  The Patriots came into the September 27 county tournament  red hot with their last three matches all resulting in wins.  Not only were they wins, the girls demolished their opponents, beating Clifton, Paterson Kennedy, and West Milford all by scores of 5-0.  This put WHHS at an impressive 7-3 record entering the tournament.  The county tournament was in singles format and not with teams scores like normal games.  The girls all won their matches and left as county champions.

“I’m excited and happy that the whole team was able to share this victory with each other.  I’m also happy that I got to have this special opportunity as a freshman, as that is something not many people get to do,” said freshman, Angela Reyzelman.

Throughout this season these girls have become more than just teammates, they have built a bond and love to play with each other.

The Patriots look to improve every week and are trying to climb in the standing as right now they sit at 5th place.  Their upcoming game against Fair Lawn will be crucial to the season as the Cutters have an 8-1 record and beat WHHS the last time the two met.  WHHS will also be seeking revenge in this game.  With four games left in the season, it would be very helpful if the Patriots could win out.

After Fair lawn the girls will face a Passaic Valley team who has not won a single game yet.  This game should be a win for the Patriots.  After that they will play (6-7) Passaic Tech and then conclude the season against a winless Paterson Eastside team.  During these final games, the team cannot underestimate any opponents because they will want to win as much as WHHS.  It should be an interesting finish to the season for the Patriots.
