The Divide of Fate

Is blood truly thicker than water? Does your fate lie with your birthright? Does your destiny lies with loyalty? Or can you truly make your own path when everything else is against you? That is what you are asking yourself in “Fire Emblem Fates”.

The story takes place in the medieval kingdom of Nohr. You play as a sheltered prince/princess, living happily with your siblings. However, everything changes when you discover that you were actually kidnapped as a child and actually royalty of the feudal kingdom of Hoshido. After your mother, Queen of Hoshido, is assassinated, war breaks out between the two kingdoms. The older brothers from both sides have given you a choice: you must either side with the kingdom you were taken from or the kingdom you were raised in. But if you’re feeling brave enough, you can side with neither and try to stop the fighting from there to keep all your siblings. With the help of Azura, a princess of Nohr raised in Hoshido, mirroring your situation, you have to decide where your fate truly lies.

For those not in the know, Fire Emblem was originally a Japan-only RPG game. However, thanks to the popularity of Marth in Super Smash Bros, Nintendo began to ship some games over here. Fire Emblem is a tactical strategy game with you as the main leader of the entire army. You decide how your units work and the way to lead them to victory.

The great thing about Fire Emblem is how you get the customize everything you have at your disposal. From the classes of your units to the people who marry, there are just endless possibilities you have. And the newest entry just amps it up. From making your very own castle to having various children of your own, and the chance to decide just how the story goes, it’s a truly unique experience.
