Kesha’s 2016 Billboard Music Awards performance is put on hold after her alleged rapist’s label, Dr. Luke with Kemosabe Records, “rescinded its approval”. After weeks of rumors speculating that pop star, Kesha, would be performing, the rumor was shot down on May 17 by Dick Clark’s production team.

The statement stated that “Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke’s record label, Kemosabe Records,” said Dick Clark Productions, “Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday, May 11, regarding Kesha’s appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show.”

To comment on the situation, Kesha has posted on Instagram that she had been planning on performing a tribute to one of her idols, Bob Dylan. She says that she would have been covering “It Ain’t Me, Babe” to honor Dylan, and this decision had nothing to do with Dr. Luke and would not be alluding to their legal situation.

“The situation is very upsetting. As a long time fan of Kesha, and a current supporter of her and her efforts, I know her performance would have been so moving and it is a shame that she can not perform because of this,” said Kayla Testino, junior.

As for Kesha, She performed “It Ain’t Me, Babe” at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, appearing alongside Ben Folds. Kesha  will continue her attempts to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke despite his preliminary injunction in January.
