Fashion Trends Today vs. The 90s
April 14, 2016
Fashion trends will always be changing, but usually, not many new styles are introduced. Fashion is constantly being recycled with trends from different eras coming back in style year after year. Some timeless fashions include the turtleneck, skinny jeans, and the little black dress. However, with all of these fashion hits, also come fashion misses. For example, shoulder pads, fanny packs, and safari suits are some things that most people do not want to see again.
Style icons from the 90s consist of Kurt Cobain, Winona Ryder, and Gwen Stefani.
Some fashion icons of today’s time include Selena Gomez, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. These women are powerful faces in the entertainment industry who can start trends without even realizing it. They have brought back many styles from the past including bell-bottom jeans, plaid, slip dresses, and tracksuits.
“I think it’s really awesome that different pieces of clothing always come back in style,” says Alexa Palumbo, a senior, “I love the vintage look.”
New trends are easier to predict than they seem because not many of them are actually “new”. Every season, designers find ways to put a new spin on an old classic and call it their own.
