Marco Rubio Drops out of the Presidential Race
March 26, 2016
On February 18th, Time magazine published an edition with Marco Rubio on the cover. The title of the piece was as follows, “The Republican Savior: How Marco Rubio became the new voice of the GOP.” As of Super Tuesday 3, that headline and Rubio’s chance at the Republican nomination are no longer alive because Rubio has suspended his campaign for the presidency.
Once hailed as the The Republican Savior, he was no longer revered by his peers when he lost his home state of Florida to the great and powerful Donald Trump. With this win in Florida, Trump gained 99 delegates which will contribute to his overall goal of 1,237.
Now that Rubio is out of the race, people are starting to discuss the idea of him becoming a running mate alongside his ex-rival Ted Cruz. According to Politico magazine, Cruz’s campaign has done recent polling in which questions are posed about the two running side by side. If not a running mate, Cruz’s campaign is at least hopeful for an endorsement from Rubio.
“You know after Iowa, I thought people would coalesce around him as the “mainstream” Republican candidate. He stumbled along the way; he was young and never seemed to have any serious ideas. So what is turning out to be a very odd election, I’m not surprised he dropped out,” said Wayne Hills history teacher, Taylor Berkowitz. It’s true Rubio was a younger candidate and that’s probably why he was able to gain attraction from younger voters. “The only politics I follow are when I watch them being parodied on Saturday Night Live, so watching the cast make fun of the GOP, the only candidate I seemed to relate to at all was Marco Rubio,” said Hills senior Karl Reidel.
It’s sad to see the Republican Savior have to leave such an interesting race.
