62 Dead in Russian Plane Crash

After circling an airport for over two hours, a FlyDubai plane crashed and killed all 62 people on board. The crash occurred on Saturday, March 19 in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and Russian officials have ruled out terrorism as a cause. The plane originally tried to land but due to high ground-level winds and poor visibility it stayed in the air. When the plane attempted to land for a second time, it crashed, killing all 62 people on board.

“We don’t yet know all the details of the accident but we are working closely with the authorities to establish the cause. We are making every effort to care for those affected and will provide assistance to the loved ones of those on board,” said Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith.

According to investigative committee spokeswoman Oksana Kovrizhnaya, they will be looking at three possibilities for the cause of the crash: technical issues, severe weather and human error. The investigation is required to last two months but may be prolonged if a cause can not be determined. “I feel horrible for the families who lost someone in the crash and I hope the plane company can find out what went wrong and prevent it from happening again.” said Freshman Daniel Boguslavsky.
