Flint Families File Lawsuit Over Lead Controversy

By Erica Autiero, Staff Writer

Flint families sued Michigan governor over the water crisis that occurred in Flint. Seven families decided to take action and file a lawsuit on March 6th.

In the lawsuit, families stated how their children’s health was being affected and how the government was violating many rules of the Safe Drinking Water Act. It’s a federal law to ensure that families get healthy, filtered water and to protect public drinking water supplies. The lead detected in the water can potentially cause permanent damage, especially in children. Even small amounts of lead can still be highly dangerous.

This is a huge problem that wasn’t taken seriously until it was too late.

“The fact that families have been complaining about the water for months, and Flint finally decided to fix the problem now is just ridiculous. Non-filtered water is a serious problem. This can affect families and cause major health problems and the fact that it was taken so lightly is not okay,” said Wayne Hills senior, Marisa Scialla.

“After hearing that the Flint water wasn’t healthy and wasn’t clean I was disgusted. This is a major problem that we cannot take lightly; this has to do with people’s health and it’s not okay that this wasn’t fully addressed sooner,” said Hills senior Morgan Gamarel.

Many people in Flint have suffered from drinking contaminated water. This has caused major health problems and will continue to cause more problems in the future. What is your opinion on this issue? Comment below and let The Patriot Press know!
