Four students were injured after a classmate open fired in an Ohio school  cafeteria on Monday, February 29. The shooter has been identified as fourteen year old, James Austin Hancock and he was taken into custody outside of Madison Junior-Senior High School in Middletown, Ohio after an attempt to flee the school.  Hancock faces juvenile charges of attempted murder, felonious assault, inducing panic and making terroristic threats. Hancock entered the cafeteria at approximately 11:30 a.m. when he retrieved a .380 semiautomatic handgun and opened fire.

“It’s tragic” says junior Michelle Morelli. “It seems like you hear about shootings every other day in the news. I pray that the students recover physically and mentally”.

Two of the injured students were shot in the library while the other two were injured attempting to escape the gunshots. A motive for the shooting has been identified by officials, but is not being released to the public. Due to this, it is unclear whether the students shot were targets or random victims of a horrible crime. The school was closed on Tuesday, March 1, in attempt to begin on-site counseling for the students after the traumatic experience.
