“Pitchers and Catchers Report to Spring Training!”
February 20, 2016
On Wednesday, the first wave of pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training for their teams is in full effect! Other teams will follow protocol and report to their respective team camps through February 22. For now, the focus lies primarily on pitchers and catchers as they shake off their off-season rust and try to prove themselves for their spot on the MLB roster.
This is the point in the season where it is crucial for pitchers and catchers to get out to a fresh start to maintain their skills. For pitchers, it’s all about staying healthy and in shape. Conditioning for both position players is extremely important, especially when you’re the one competing for a roster spot. “It is almost like applying for a job,” said senior Jason Cote. “If they don’t like what they see, the won’t hire you.”
The end of February and the beginning of March are the first weeks to kick off Spring Training for the MLB. For pitchers and catchers around the league, this is the time when all of the off-season hard work pays off. Athletes from around the country competing to show off their athletic ability on the field are hoping they can crack a spot on the roster for their respective team.
