Spring training begins this week in Florida
February 18, 2016
The wait is officially over. Pitchers and catchers reported to training camp this week as the baseball season is around the corner. The defending champions Kansas City Royals will look to get back to the World Series while the runner-up New York Mets will seek revenge for their loss. Many Mets players have made it clear that the loss still haunts them. “I wish I had that World Series start back, but other than that I was pretty happy with how my postseason went,” said Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom Tuesday at Mets camp. Their manager was also disappointed due to the fact that they led in every single game.“It was shocking,’’ Collins said, “how disappointed I was.’’ Wayne Hills High School Freshman and Met fan Mark Noschese thought it was the first of many world series appearances. “With our pitching staff, it can be pretty easy to beat teams in only the first few innings because they never blow leads.” The hype of the 2016 Mets is all around the fact that they have the arguably the best pitching staff in the MLB. They also resigned their best hitter Yoenis Cespedes to a three- year deal which capped off one of the most productive off season’s from the Mets in a long time. But what about the Yankees? All the talk has been around the Mets and their potential record-breaking pitching but the Yankees have a chance to be the shocker of the season. In the off-season, they found their new second basemen after acquiring Starlin Castro from the Chicago Cubs. Their middle infield now has youth, experience, and a whole lot of talent. The question is whether the Yankees veterans can hold up and play well throughout the whole season. First basemen Mark Teixeira and many others proved to be productive in the first half of the season but shut down in the second half. If they can sustain the success throughout the whole season then they can be the surprise of the season. This season is set to be one that will have many surprises as well as many disappointments.
