One of Wayne Hills’ beloved events, Student Dance Association aka SDA is finally here. It’s almost March so that means the SDA is in full motion. The White and Maroon team have been working for months perfecting their dances to be shown off at the shows on March 6th, 7th, and 8th. The overall theme this year is SDA Presents: Tim Burton, including themes from old and new Tim Burton movies and shows. This theme has left people with many questions, and it is very different from the years before. But everyone hopes that each team can pull through for a great show. Maroon and White have big shoes to fill as many will say that last year’s SDA: Night at the Museum was one of the best shows they have ever seen out of Wayne Hills.
The Maroon team led by Overall Mikayla Sevret is ready for this season. Coming off of a loss the last two years, Maroon is ready to step it up this year. This team is filled with many experienced captains as 3 out of the 4 dances have previous captains taking the roles. Their spooky themes include the new hit show Wednesday, Alice in Wonderland, Batman, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Even though a lot of the captains are returning, all are excited to show the dances. Sydney Cahn, returning Maroon Dance captain says, “SDA has become such an important part of my life. While it is known as a club it’s a lot more than just a club. Win or Lose you became a family with each member on your team. Being a captain has led me to improve on leadership and so much more. This year’s show is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to see every dance on each team.” Will Maroon rise to the top and take home the win this year?
The White Team led by Overall Bella Catania are excited to show off their dances this year. Many of the captains are first-year captains with only two returning, so for the White team, there are many new ideas for each dance. White Tap captain, Evelyn Clewley, states, “I am so excited for this year’s SDA show. I know how hard all the captains have been working. This year was my first year as a captain and it was an experience like no other. I am so ready to perform and see everyone’s dance.” The White team is coming off of two huge wins after 2023 and the 2024 shows. With themes including Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride, and Edward Scissorhands will the White Team come back for the three-peat this year?
No matter which team comes out on top, everyone must be ready for a spooky show. When each team steps onto the Wayne Hills gym, or as many would call it, the “SDA Stage,” be ready to look into Tim Burton’s eyes. Everyone can not wait to see what this group of amazing girls has in store for this show. Will Maroon or White make their way to the top? We will just have to wait and see!
