Is Gen Alpha going places?
Screens in front of toddlers and no emotional interactions are how Gen Alpha is living. Generation Z is also in touch with social media however, Gen Alpha is expected to be far more advanced when it comes to technology. Though that could be a good thing, we can’t tell for sure whether it will do more harm than good. Gen Z consists of people born between 1995 and 2012 meanwhile Gen Alpha covers 2013 to 2025. The people of these generations are known to have extremely different personalities.
Despite the tension between Gen Z and Millennials, millennials are more aligned with Gen Z culture rather than that of Gen Alpha. This is because millennials are easily able to adapt to the drastic cultural changes from the 2000s to the 2010s. Electronics like cell phones and tablets were just being introduced in those decades, however, now that we’ve entered the 2020s, society only revolves around phones. Instead of ideas for a completely new product, we have only added alternatives to the mobile devices we all know and love. Because of the wave of technology, there has been a long dispute on whether Generation Alpha would be successful or struggling to make a living.
“They have more technology to use, but limited creativity, since technology sometimes hinders creativity,” said sophomore Rebecca Minevich.
Gen Alpha will be the most technologically advanced since they only know life in front of screens. These kids do not do well in social situations because they have grown up on the internet during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are lots of new slang words mainly understood and used by Generation Alpha. Some examples are “skibidi toilet,” “rizz,” “sigma”,“mewing,” etc. This is their way of communicating because they struggle with normal conversations. Plus, since they spend most of their time on social media apps watching celebrities, it influences them. They try to act more mature and older when in reality they’re not.
Freshman Naomi Garcia states, “Gen Alpha kids are usually into skibidi toilet, which I kind of like because I’m into brain rot too. The most Gen Alpha kid I know is my little brother.”
Clearly, sophomore Emilio Roca disapproves of it and believes that it decreases their quality of mind. He argues, “I have little hope for them because as we all know, their brains are rotted. If the brain rot isn’t too severe, they will have a normal future.”
Opinions relating to Gen Z vs. Gen Alpha differ greatly. Most people are not a part of Gen Alpha because of the way they act and talk. They have difficulties with social skills and face-to-face communication.
