Is The Chipotle Scare Over?

By Jaclyn Dericks

Who wouldn’t want a delicious spicy burrito from Chipotle? A couple months ago anybody would, but if you ask people that question now, the answers are more and more becoming “no.” Recently officials have found E.coli outbreaks linked to food that has been served at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Their income has declined by a considerable amount due to the outbreak starting in October 2015. They originally predicted their sales to change by about 8-11%, however, as of January 2016 it dropped by 44%. All together they have found a total of 55 people who have been infected in 11 states, California, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington. While many people would not even think about eating at Chipotle after hearing about this outbreak, others don’t seem to be affected by it. “I don’t see a problem with eating at Chipotle, there hasn’t been any findings about affected people in New Jersey, so I don’t see a reason why I should stop going there,” comments junior Nina Nesbitt. As of Monday, February 8, every Chipotle will close for a 4-hour food safety meeting. Hopefully the infections will end and people can go back to enjoying Chipotle the way they always have.
