Is The Chipotle Scare Over?
February 11, 2016
Who wouldn’t want a delicious spicy burrito from Chipotle? A couple months ago anybody would, but if you ask people that question now, the answers are more and more becoming “no.” Recently officials have found E.coli outbreaks linked to food that has been served at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Their income has declined by a considerable amount due to the outbreak starting in October 2015. They originally predicted their sales to change by about 8-11%, however, as of January 2016 it dropped by 44%. All together they have found a total of 55 people who have been infected in 11 states, California, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington. While many people would not even think about eating at Chipotle after hearing about this outbreak, others don’t seem to be affected by it. “I don’t see a problem with eating at Chipotle, there hasn’t been any findings about affected people in New Jersey, so I don’t see a reason why I should stop going there,” comments junior Nina Nesbitt. As of Monday, February 8, every Chipotle will close for a 4-hour food safety meeting. Hopefully the infections will end and people can go back to enjoying Chipotle the way they always have.

Like many others, Chipotle was on of my favorite places to eat, but after hearing about the E.coli outbreaks I haven’t gone there since. Even though people have not been affected by this outbreak in NJ, it doesn’t mean that there is no bacteria. There is a chance that we can be affected, and I would rather be safe than sorry. Unless the problem is fixed, I don’t see many people going to Chipotle, including myself. I feel that Chipotle needs to fix this problem fast in order to keep the good reputation they always had. If this continues, the numbers will continue to drop, and like many others, I wouldn’t mind eating clean Chipotle again.

I don’t feel anyone should be eating at chipotle, until the infections end. The risk of getting E.coli is not worth it. It is good Chipotle’s sales are going down because now they should take more caution as to what they are serving us. Everyone around goes crazy over this garbage food, and they have no idea what they are putting into their bodies. Chipotle should work to figure out better/healthier ingredients for their food. Yes, when you first eat one of their burritos it tastes good, but after it makes you feel nauseous. Yet, people still go back and keep getting food from them. There hasn’t been any E.coli situations in New Jersey yet, but their is a first for everything and it is bound to happen.

This is a fantastic article! I have always been a big fan of Chipotle! Their food has excellent flavor that makes my mouth water and excellent portion sizes to make me go home satisfied. Ever since the e.coli outbreak however, my friends have told me to never to eat their food again. I Disagree! They have found certain places with the e.coli breakout, not in NJ. If they had a breakout in NJ my opinions might change drastically.
I have been to Chipotle a few times since the outbreak and nothing has happened to me to judge the food so harshly. I will continue to go to Chipotle because I enjoy it! If there ever was an outbreak in my state then I may reconsider.
