The Leo Club’s Fall Book Sale

The Leo Club, a community service group at Wayne Hills, has been planning a book sale for its fall project this year. In September and October, the Leos collected donations of gently used books from members of the Wayne community.

These books will be sold at the Fall Book Sale Fundraiser on October 24th, from 3:00-6:00 at Wayne Hills, for the low price of $2.00 a hardcover and $0.50 a paperback.

The idea for the book sale is credited to Wayne Hills junior and club fundraising officer, Austin Ruan.

Leo Club President and high school senior Hanna Hajdu explained that “It’s been going really well—we don’t have an exact count of the books but we have stacks of boxes collected both from schools in the area such as Schuyler and the Preakness Early Childhood Center, as well as our amazing members.”

The money raised from the fundraiser will be donated to several organizations that the Leo Club has worked with in the past, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Camp Marcella for the Blind, and Foundabilities.

Last year, the Leos raised $1,000 for the JDRF and $500 for Camp Marcella. Every year, the club also gives $525 in gift cards at their holiday party to Foundabilities.

In November, the club will walk with Team Miracle for Matthew at Liberty State Park in Jersey City to raise awareness and money for JDRF, the leading organization funding Type 1 diabetes research. They also plan to run a fall cleanup at Camp Marcella, which creates a fun camp experience for blind and visually impaired youth.

Through these activities and fundraisers, the club is hoping to match previous donation amounts or exceed them. The book sale is only the first of the Leo Club’s plans for this year.

Hajdu stated, “We’re expecting a great turnout, we’ve invited students and educators from all of the surrounding middle and elementary schools as well as Hills students and staff.”

Stop by the book sale for a great bargain and support a variety of causes!
