Students Share Summer Music Favorites

What better way to start the summer by going on a nice drive with your friends with the windows down and most importantly, music blasting. When thinking about the genre of summer music, pop and happy music comes to mind. Of course there’s no set genre that you HAVE to listen to but the vibes of your music taste usually changes as the weather switches.

“I usually listen to the same few songs throughout the year but during the summer I like to listen to more upbeat music. I have a playlist just for the summer that I listen to all the time, artists like Doja Cat, Declan McKenna, Olivia Rodrigo, and Shawn Mendes,” says Riya Kachroo, junior at Wayne Hills. All these artists are mostly known for their pop albums and have a wide reach of fans from all over the world.

Most people have their own separate playlists just for the summer, but on the other hand a few love to listen to upbeat tunes all year round. “Summer songs are my favorite songs and the only songs I listen to all year round,” says Mia Kahrar, junior at Wayne Hills.

Of course music is based on what you like and what you are in the mood for but its no secret that people would rather listen to upbeat and cheerful music in the summer. With artists continuously releasing new music it’s hard to tell what song will be the summer song of 2022. Last year it was a mix of Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lil Nas X since they all released albums right before summer began. A few songs that reached a wide audience last summer were Kiss Me More – Doja Cat, Good 4 U – Olivia Rodrigo, Thats What I Want – Lil Nas X , Brazil – Declan Mckenna , and Best Friend – Saweetie.  This year there’s a good chance that the top summer artist will be Harry Styles or Jack Harlow since they also released albums not long ago. I guess we’ll find out pretty soon!
