Wayne Hills Girls Lacrosse Enter the County Final!
May 6, 2022
The Wayne Hills Girls Lacrosse team has leaped into the County Final for the third year in a row! The defending champions will play in the Finals against the Lakeland Lancers for the third year in a row.
The County Final will be held at Wayne Valley on Saturday, May 7, at 4:00 p.m. Wayne Hills holds the number one seed, so they will be wearing their white uniforms as the “home team.”
After a comfortable win against West Milford on Wednesday, May 4, Wayne Hills will advance once again! University of Florida commit, Kaitlyn Davies, led the Patriots with nine goals in the 18-2 win. “I knew that we had to go into this game with full force and not give West Milford any opportunities. Our defense was able to break them down and our offense was able to attack aggressively. The job is not finished yet. Now we have to focus on Lakeland,” Davies said in an interview after the game. Davies has had a record-breaking senior season and career. She currently has 255 career goals, averaging about 6 goals and 2 assists per game. Additionally, Davies was nominated as an Under Armor All American for girls lacrosse.
Alongside Davies, are seniors, Kate LoPresti, Sam Hoff, and Sarah Park. The four work together as the Captains of the Patriots lacrosse team. “I think the four of us work very well together. We are friends on and off the field, so our chemistry on the field is evident,” LoPresti states.
Lakeland played Wayne Valley in the Semi-final to earn their ticket into the Finals. Junior Reaghan Lomascola led the team in their victory with nine goals and twelve draw controls. Lomascola is committed to Mercer University where she will play D1 lacrosse.
Earlier in the season, Wayne Hills went head to head against the Lancers. The Patriots won in a 20-9 victory. But, as all sports fans know, it is very difficult to beat a team twice, especially with the County Final on the line. To make the stakes even higher, Wayne Hills has beaten Lakeland in the County Final the past two years in 2019 and 2021 (due to COVID, there was no County tournament in 2020). So, without a doubt, the Lancers will be entering this game with revenge on their minds.
With all the stakes on the line, grab your popcorn and your school gear to watch these two teams go head to head at the County Final, for the third year in a row! Can Wayne Hills become 3-time County Champions and defeat Lakeland one more time? Or can Lakeland find a way to overcome the Patriots and take the title away?
