Fifteen-year-old Kamila Valieva, a Russian Olympic ice skater who is set to win gold landed the Olympic quad on February 7, 2022.

The Olympic quad is such a hard trick that no woman has ever done it before her in the Olympics. She did it not only once but twice making her win the hearts of many. She landed this during the free skate portion of the team event.

This jump requires at least four but no more than five revolutions. This is a staple with the men but it is a first for women. Her performance included a  quad salchow, a jump where the skater must lift off the ice with the inside edge of one skate, complete four revolutions in the air, then land cleanly on the outside edge of the other foot. Next, she completed a quad toe loop with a triple toe combination. She then attempted a third quad and fell on the landing.  She performed a triple axel as well, making her the fourth woman to land that jump at the Winter Olympics.

“She is insane. Kamila is around my age and she has done so much more than me, it kinda makes me feel bad. I’m really proud of her though, that is crazy that she is even able to land it and be the first to do so,” said junior Erica Cuciti.

This performance landed her team the Gold, Leaving America to get silver and Japan the bronze.
