Wayne Hills Girls Basketball Senior Spotlight
December 3, 2021
This year, the Wayne Hills Girls Basketball team is looking forward to their season. With an odd 2020-21 season, due to complicated COVID-19 protocols, the team is excited to take on this season.
This year’s team holds eight returning seniors; Sydney Licerio, Katy Gorden, Ashleigh Losito, Alex Dellechiaie, Lexi Donohue, Sarah Park, and Jenna Lewis. Some of these girls have even been playing together since as far back as fifth grade!
Last year, the team ended with a strong record of nine wins and four losses. Although the girls have lost a few key players from last year, they are hopeful of continuing their success.
Let’s see what Senior’s Katy Gorden and Sydney Licerio have to say about the upcoming season.
Due to COVID-19, Katy Gorden took last season off, but this year she is fortunately back! The senior guard is returning as a vital leader to this team. “I’m so glad to finally be back and on the court. I do not know what better way to return than in my senior season,” Gorden stated. “Although I was not able to play in my junior year, I will work harder than ever every day this season to make up for last year.”
In addition to Gorden, the team also has Sydney Licerio, the Senior point guard. Last year, the team had Sam Graf, the four-year varsity starter as their floor general who led the team in assists. Now that Graf has graduated, Licerio has a huge spot to fill in. After all, a team cannot be successful without a leading point guard. “As the point guard, I know my role on the team and that my team counts on me.“
These eight seniors are bittersweet about this season. They are sad it’s their last time ever stepping on the court together, but excited to see what the season holds.
