Last Friday, September 24, 2021, the Marching band presented the audience with new and fresh entertainment, as well as songs! Last year’s marching band shows were nothing compared to this year’s shows. Covid canceled most clubs, sports, and the marching band was either postponed or put on hold. After a hard year, the band came through. This year’s music was meant for everyone, the audience, band, and the competition.

The marching band wanted to celebrate important life events. For youth, they play the song “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. To celebrate life, they choose an ancient druid dance, for the future, they choose the song “We Are The Future.”

“It’s fun to perform and it’s fun to listen to while still being challenging to the musicians,” said Marching Band advisor, Mr. Paterno.

This year the marching band figured that what people need were happiness and fun. They decided to incorporate all the music that was fun to listen to and fun to play. The marching band has added some new songs to the halftime show and while the football game is happening. They added a mini-show called, “Schools Out,” where a student rings an electronic bell and they do a little skit pretending that school has ended. After about 10 seconds they get in position and perform their new song. They also added some dances like the macarena dance and salsa to spice things up. Marching band students now get up during a score made by the football team and can dance along.

“I enjoy listening to the marching band, it makes the football game more fun,” said Joanna Gula, Wayne Hills’ parent. She like many others had similar opinions.

“I enjoy playing stand tones and being the entertainment at the football games,” said Sophomore Janae Murray.

With the new changes, many band members are even more excited about the games. The best part is the audience singing along and dancing with the marching band.
